Instructions for Final year B.E. Students!

I’m writing this post for all  Final year students,

I hope that the following instructions would be useful for them to some extent

Serious part of your life starts from here . .. Be ready to strive hard to achieve your destination and thereby Success is all yours  . .
I feel that the following tips will be really helpful. It enriches you to be aware and be prepared to Survival of the fittest in the battle of JOB , indeed 🙂
I want you to improve your knowledge on various domains ….
The foll are some of my requests to make you aware of
  1. First of all, Set a goal and confine your area of interest  .. i.e., whether onto s/w side or on core side and start getting organised accordingly.
  2. Preparing a proper Resume is the Ultimate key to lure the hirer.. Hope you’d have got my mail consisting of a bunch of sample resumes! Don’t make your resume to exceed more than 3 pages, if so, then it is said as Curriculum Vitae, not a resume 🙂
  3. Explore what is into YOU and start to write something about you for hardly one page .. . I can bet you that you can’t even fill half the page 😛 …  No worries, Keep updating it whenever something strikes your mind about you and your uniqueness 🙂
Most interestingly, it’s gonna be the root answer fot the most Typical HR question “Tell about Yourself”, which is undoubtedly a sure question, not only during interview process, but every time wherever you go !
  4. I request you ppl to start preparing for Aptitude and C* from now on . You will never find time to do a eleventh hour preparation before the day of Interview, as you will be intimated at the last moment about the Campus Interview..  we don’t want you to do the same mistake as we did!
  5. Register yourself in various job portals like (after preparing your Resume) like naukri.comtimesjobs.comshine.commonster.com, etc.
  6. Keep a track on the most active forum chetanasforum.com regarding jobs to have daily updates on walk ins and off campuses . . .wait till opportunity comes to your batch ..
  7. Post your updated resume onto all company websites which has a tab named “CAREERS” in it for sure. [Not now, start posting at the end of your 7th semester]
  8. Be Active by participate in Symposium events like Paper Presentation  at least once in your College days, No matter however you mess it up ! , The Ultimate goal of doing it is that you may get rid of stage fear and would be a nice experience to manage in the crowd 🙂
  9. Before everything, Make yourself Confident enough to be better in Communication Skills . . If not, start striving hard for making it out ! In fact, that’s the best way of luring (attracting) HR though you are weak enough in your technical part. . You may also join in http://labs.google.co.in/smschannels/subscribe/klncit_ece to get daily updates on a word everyday !
Ignore this if you feel that its absurd.
  10. I request you to register in the mailing lists of your College Alumni Groups, so that you could keep a track on Alumini referrals which may come handy in near future.
  11. Apart from this, I can say that this is the best time for doing Certifications based on your interest… [not C or C++, but something different, like RHCE, SCSA, EMC Storage, CCNA, etc] . . because this is the only stuff which is gonna make you stand out from the crowd by differentiating you from others.
Note: Please do consult with your relatives or friends of Seniors twice or thrice before taking a step ahead to join into any of those courses !
  12. Get a good score this semester, as this is the base for Cut-off for attending campus interviews.
  13. Be active in doing something, i.e., Updating your knowledge either passively by surfing internet or actively by participating in debates or meetings or by conducting events !

* – For students who wish to get into software field!

At last, Enjoy your final year to the core and meanwhile, think of your career too 🙂

Guess I have typed all that comes to my mind and I feel that this would be useful to you atleast to some extent . .
My best wishes for your success 🙂
May you shine well in this Tech savvy world !
DISCLAIMER: The above points are my personal view and it is up to the readers who wish to follow
FYI : I have posted this article here as well http://bit.ly/abwlKB

Stepping into New Life- The Corporate World:)

Hello readers, this post is to say that I am no longer a student and now am a software professional :P. I have been posted here in Chennai . So I am actually into a new world both in lifestyle terms (College Student to Corporate Employee) and also in geographic terms (Madurai to Chennai). I have never been away from my family in my 21 years of life.. Its time for me to live all alone in an entirely new location which is about 450 kms  far from my family and now its time for me to get used to the geographic change and new crew of people.

To say about Chennai, it is the capital city of Tamil Nadu, situated in the tropical zone of climate . It is due to this reason that the city experiences a hot and humid weather throughout the year 🙁 Its a city filled with a mixture of pupil with all standards ranging from illiterates to millionaires. One can easily find Corporate IT Professionals down the streets undergoing a cushy job getting a decent salary and living a sophisticated life here as Chennai has become a major bay for all IT Companies !

I have something to say about my company life. Here, I feel like I am spending my time in Heaven. People here are really really kind enough with me. Centralised A/C, A cabin, An office laptop, An always opened pantry with free snack and junk foods :P, A cab for my pick up and drop, blah blah . . makes me feel really glad to me. Myself along with 4 more colleagues are the junior most part of the company and we have been surrounded by tech-geeks who are simple enough with no show off and a very interesting stuff about my company is, one may find it hard to find hierarchy levels in Designation here. I was excited to see our director and manager of my team being friendly and chatting and raising pranks as well at me like a dosth . This made me feel like I’m no more alone. Also, people here show a keen interest to share their knowledge with us  and thus we have been set free to ask any kinda doubts or queries to them, no matter how silly it is 🙂 Trust me, I have never been felt lonely here and all I feel is these are my new family members.

I have updated my Facebook profile with few photos as well : www.facebook.com/ijeyanthan

The only hitch I found these days was my lack of concentration. But I would build it slowly and make my dream come true here by achieving my goal for sure! BTW, I have been planning to start writing technical articles as well and keep you updated . Will do it for sure soon in some days .

My Passion has been made as my Career – with CollabNet !

Hey all, I’m back here with my experience about my Interview process @ CollabNet., Inc. (visit www.collab.net).

It was Mr. Senthil Kumaran, Who sent about vacancy in CollabNet on July 19 through GLUGOT and ILUGC Mailing lists .

I felt that this post suits well for my background and soon sent my updated resume that night to the specified mail id .

I was eagerly waiting for a response mail from them .. After few days, I guess it was on 24th July, got a call from CollabNet stating that I have been shortlisted in the screening process and they wanted me to attend an Interview on 30th July 2010 (Friday).

I felt sooo happy and I started preparing for the written process and finally gone through it that day and came back home, awaiting again for the results . . After 4 days of impatience, got a call stating I’v been shortlisted in the written test successfully !

Yay, now the next phase is very important and I must step up moving my coin smart and with keen care.

The Judgement day came, I undergone 2 technical Interview rounds followed by 3 HR rounds . . and trust me, they were easy and very importantly it was upto my level 😛

BTW, I am not supposed to reveal those questions as it is not loyal 😛

Finally, after undergoing 6 rounds of thorough filteration, I am now a part of the CollabNet., Inc. Joined here as a trainee . . Feeling glad that my career has been made up with my choice of desire and proud to contribute my part towards Open Source as well !

Also, I’m proud to work under ILUGC Coordinator commiter, Mr.Shrinivasan … Yippie 😉

I’v got a chance to expose myself here to their Open Source technologies and also I feel that I can learn a lot here as I’m being surrounded by friendly techies and Geeks !

At last, My Passion has been made as my Career with CollabNet , who gets this heavenly opportunity ?! I work in a job which supports my passion . .

Will try to update my blog often with whatever I learn from now on ..

Birth of Google Technology User Group Madurai

Hello everyone, Hope you read my previous post “Birth of Open Source User Group in KLNCIT”, if not, read it and come here back as this is actually a part of it  🙂

While searching about user groups and Communities, I suddenly found Google Technology User Group to be catchy and started to read thoroughly with my eyes popping out of anxiety! . . I was seriously longing for some organisation to recognize my activities and I hardly found anything successful . Out of  frustration, I just registered for a chapter in Madurai  for name sake.

It was Jan 9, while thinking to plan for starting up an OSUG in our College , to my surprise I got  a mail from Steph (Google) stating that GTUG Madurai was approved followed by few other Instructions.. , I was Jaw stuck for a moment, I started jumping till I hit the ceiling 😛 . I

Soon I started creating a logo, site for it followed by mailing lists, social network links and started planning for my first event to be a grand one !

I ended up inaugurating GTUG along with OSUG in 17th March 2010 @ our College  and thus my contribution towards Google Technologies begins 😉

I started learning things of my own to meet my needs .

Got to know about hell a lot of  new stuffs about Google’s Developer Technologies and its contribution towards Open Source 🙂

Now, I feel Glad and honoured to have this Manager privilege for my Madurai Chapter. 😉

Will promote whenever I get a chance to speak . . Got so many plans pipelined to do in forthcoming days !

Birth of Open Source User Group in KLNCIT

Hmmm ..  Where should I start ?

The desire of Organising an event was put up in mind after attending few events conducted by my seniors  Mr.Pradeep Kumar (Founder of IBM DB2 UG) and Mr.Raghuveer babu (Founder of MVCC- Microsoft Visual Campus Club and IBM DB2 UG) .. after seeing their hard-work in making grand events sequencially has kindled me to contribute something to them somehow either to assist with them by following their User group activities !

BTW, I became more and more curious on Open Source technologies after attending F’stival , Fossconf and GLUGOT meetings held @ Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai.

Then, I came to know about GLUG Madurai and GLUGOT’s existence and their history and got a contact id of few of the GLUGOT founders’ like Mr.Joe Steeve and Mr.Senthil Kumaran !

I’v literally got stunned by their organising effort, enthusiasm, potential and most importantly their team-work made me to freeze for sometime . ! That’s actually possible only if we have like-minded people with us.

I wish I would start a group for my college too and thereby we can promote FOSS and it’d be beneficiall both to Students and for my Organisation ! , but, I didn’t know how to start and from where to start 🙁

Lately, M.G.Avenash (CSE Dept) and V.Thirunageshwaran (CSE Dept) of my set started organising a grand event named “Winter Camp – Season 2 ” in the month of december 2009 held in our College.

Interesting thing to be noted here is,  They both conducted separate events at the same time for 15days.

  • Avenash – 10 days winter camp on ‘Developing Software using IBM tools’
  • Thirunageshwaran – 10 days winter camp on ‘SQL Server 2008’

Do you know, in December 2008 too my Seniors conducted two successful winter camps (.NET & SQL Server) in our college. For details, refer the following links..

.NET Winter Camp 2008 (15 days)

SQL Server Winter Camp 2008 (5 days)

I have showed interest on their efforts and volunteered myself in supporting one of those two groups, i.e., Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Camp . You know something? I’v been awarded with “The Best Speaker Award” for handling sessions in that event. 😛

This gave me confidence and made my thought strong about creating an open source user group, along with MVCC and IBM DB2! 🙂

I started inquiring about this to my seniors and friends, where few started cracking jokes and made fun at me about this initiative and other few, who always take immense care on me has raised few qns , among which, the most silliest question was, “Edhukku indha vetti polapu? pesama padichoma, college vittu ponomaa nu iru da “, few others quoted, “indha college ku seiradhanaala unakkenna laabam ? ! “ , Though their questions were reasonable to some extent, IMO, it was pointless.

Rather than getting disappointed, I felt pity on them that they weren’t yet matured to know its vision, virtue, value and the satisfaction we get, when we share our knowledge with others !

Thus, I directly spoke with HOD of IT department for disclosing my ideas to her !. She totally got inspired by my initiative and started giving tips on how to start with this and so on 🙂 Also, to my surprise, She added that they (ITSG Group) are in a thought of revamping the entire College Systems with Ubuntu Linux due to Microsoft’s License issues and thus, this User Group activity is the right choice at the right time and its a a must to have one for our college to as it would make an awareness among ppl.

As I’m from ECE Department, Its my duty to bring this to our HOD’s knowledge and get approval soon from college to start this group by stating all its benefits that the College and Students gain from this User Group! . Thus, I’v soon made a list of it and brought that to our HOD !  . .. To my surprise, without a word, she whole heartedly accepted and started to search for an apt date to inaugurate without any delay! .

OMG ! Nw, its my sole responsibility to make things done without messing up and of course, the entire responsibility fell on me . Soon I started working hard for making things done perfectly.

Started to inquire about this to few of my TCE friends and invited Mr.Joe Steeve for inaugurating “Open Source User Group”. Again, to my surprise, I’v got a positive reply from him stating that he is willing to inaugurate our event.

Hooray!

Now, the responsiblity became even more worser and Its time for me to make things even more better . . Soon, I’v made all arrangements for inauguration and finally, that day came .

The day before Inauguration, I started preparing at the eleventh hour to chart out all the activiteez on the dais , blah blah . . with the help of my 4nd Bhuvanesh.

It was 17th March 2010 . .  My day started wit full of nervousness and Anxiety and as this must happen without any mess and most importantly I must make Mr.Joe Steeve comfortable in all means including hospitality .

Here are few photos that I wish to share with U !

For further details, visit http://madurai.gtugs.org/gallery

Don’t get confused after lookin at GTUG logo, in between 🙂 I will reveal it in my next post soon !

A special thanks to all my friends, Juniors and Class mates who made this event a successful one and fulfil my dreams come true! Lastly, My hearty thanks to Mr.Manikandan for making this come to reality !

This has come true and live by my Seniors Raghuveer babu and Pradeep as they were the founders of  User Group on Microsoft (MVCC) and IBM DB2 in our College . To know more about them : Click here

Now, I feel glad and really honored to say that I am the founder of Open Source User Group of KLNCIT 😛 🙂 and thus this is all about the birth of  Open Source User Group in KLNCIT 🙂

My task of Inauguration followed by few events & meetup got over ! [will update in my nxt post soon]

Now, I’m full of tender solicitude towards my OSUG ! . Its all left to my Juniors and my College.

My last words to my Juniors :

Herewith, I admit that I’ll do my level best to nurture my Juniors in making this Open Source User group live and active forever.

My Interview experience with Logica

Hmmm . ..  I have to say that this is the most memorable day ever in ma life !

Jus happen to check ma mails ,came across a strange subject stating something about the Interview call by the next day ! OMG! How did I miss this mail? I’d have read that mail instantly, as I do always , Anyways . .its already 7.30PM ! still an hour more to take decision whethr to move to chennai or not 🙁  I was clueless and thereby asked ma parents . . Immediately, they started yelling at me to go and attend after asking a series of questions!. Finally, after a thorough analysis with ma mates and seniors, I’v decided to give it a shot somehow.. oops, but its 9PM already. I started getting myself organised, left home though it was raining heavily;  most importantly, sacrificed ma dinner and somehow managed to reach bus stand by 10.50 ! .. was fully drenched 🙁

Know what? This is ma first time travelling all alone so looong (Madurai to chennai) in bus 😛

Sari vidunga, matter ku varuvom . . had few slices of bread and had a nap ! Reached Chennai koyambedu by 8.40 . . pretty tensed as it was already late  .. After making too many phone calls, took a bus to MMDA Colony and managed to reach ma senior’s room with a great struggle . . . Argh, it was all new to me !

Then, after refreshing myself, I came back to bus stand and took a bus to guindy followed by a share auto to DLF IT Park! Happa , oru vazhiyaa reached DLF Park by 10.30 AM ! . . . Ufff! it was too late .

What the hell? huge packs of stupendous skyscraper buildings all around. . is this called a Corporate environment? Got stunned by its majestic appearance and regained back from the world of fascination 🙂 . .. Entered into the gate after a thorough security check in several places . . Hmm  .. Entered into the Reception , waited for some time , then reached the place where candidates were waiting!

My teeth started typing cos of A/C, he hee 😛 😀

Aprom enna, tea , biscut laam kuduthaanga . . nalla saaptitu wait pannikitae irundhaen, until i get my turn to have a prelims (written test). Ah finally they called next batch of some 30ppl, onto which I was one among them 🙂

Had Preliminary round consisting of Aptitude, Verbal, etc for 50 marks with a duration of half an hour.

Its time to announce results . Ewww! Fingers crossed !.. Started reading out ppl names one by one . . . felt a bit nervous (not actually :P) . OMG,  My name, along with some 7 fellows, were not read as I thought 🙁 We stayed in the room and the rest were taken away.

Totally disappointed and I planned to move , but to my surprise, she came back and said that we guys were selected for next round and she wants us to move to GD Room !

Ah! ada kadavulae . . hmm epdi laam twist vaikuraanga (mind voice :P)

Entered into GD Hall quite lethargically as speaking is a piece of cake for me. Found HR to be  gigantic  . . Haiyo . . I couldn’t manage myself to that coldness in that room and started to shiver . . Darn you A/C (Should I tell it to her?, well not sure if thats right at that moment) 😛

Now, GD started , My much awaited moment had come as I had a bit of a confidence that I can manage this round as I’m already a chatter box 🙂

My hope was all up till we were given the Topic — “Football vs Cricket” .

OMG! I realised I was cornered the moment I heard it..  Ewww.. I knew the basics of neither football nor cricket, as I was not fascinated by them since my KG! I wish I must’ve known something about it in prior 🙁 I never expected such an easy topic would trap me into the couch ! All started to talk (‘scream’ suits apt I guess). . The entire 7 minutes of hot debate went in a jiffy! I have managed to collect one valid point and shot out towards the crowd when my turn came, but to my anguish, another fellow mentioned the same point that I thought to say . . Enna koduma sir edhu . . .

hmmm . . . aprom enna ?

Climax: Jus happened as you thought 😛 . . . its understood 🙂

felt a bit sad as next round was the final HR, which was quite manageable, it seems ..  told by my friend who have attended the next round . . anyways, it just went off due to my carelessness and lack of knowledge in cricket and football, I say 😐

Anyway, that was a great experience , came all alone and managed to reach d company and came up to this level ..

Finally, I spared the remaining evening in besant nagar beach with my friends (managed to get them just by coincidence) and took a bus back to Madurai that night and reached home safe :)… that is all folks!
